About the product

Ajowan smells spicy and herbal, with a clear, warm thyme tone underneath. It is one of the more characterful aromas among the culinary-herb essential oils. The raw material is the seeds of Trachyspermum ammi, a plant from the celery family.

The aroma is concentrated and goes a long way: a few drops are enough to fill a room. In blends it works well alongside herbal and citrus oils, adding a piquant edge.

Thyme, oregano and rosemary underline the herbal character of ajowan. Lemon and orange brighten it and soften the spicy sharpness, while cedar and vetiver give a blend a heavier, woody base.

Intended use

Room fragrancing: nebulizer, diffuser, aromatherapy burner, air humidifier, sauna stones, fragrance devices and car air fresheners. Diluted in a carrier oil, the oil can also be used in skin care.

How to use

The aroma comes through most fully in a nebulizer, where the oil is used undiluted. For a diffuser or humidifier, add 3-5 drops per 100 ml of water. In an aromatherapy burner, mix a few drops with water or a carrier oil and warm gently. In a sauna, add 2-3 drops to the water poured over the stones. On skin, use only when diluted to 1-2%, which means 2-3 drops per 10 ml of carrier oil.

Trachyspermum Ammi Seed Oil, Limonene, Linalool. The compounds in bold are naturally occurring components of ajowan seed oil, not added substances.

Precautions

Highly concentrated product. Do not apply undiluted to the skin, as it may cause irritation or an allergic reaction. Before first use, carry out a patch test on a small area of skin and wait 24 hours. Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water. Do not inhale vapours directly from the bottle, and ventilate a room where a diffuser is running. Do not ingest; if swallowed, do not induce vomiting and contact a doctor. Keep out of reach of children. Use caution during pregnancy, while breastfeeding and with children. Keep away from sources of ignition, in a tightly closed bottle, protected from light. Do not pour down the drain, as the oil is harmful to aquatic organisms.
